- Things That Don’t Suck: Raven Concealment Systems ModuLoader Shotgun Shell Carrierby Travis Pike on June 26, 2022 at 5:00 pm
Have you ever had an idea you thought was utter genius, something no one has come up with before…only to find out later that, yes, it’s already been done? That’s how I feel about Raven Concealment Systems and the ModuLoader. Years ago, a friend of mine was messing around making Kydex holsters and mag pouches, and we talked about building a simple Kydex platform to which we could mount velcro shotgun cards. It turns out Raven Concealment Systems had this idea long before we did in the form of the ModuLoader. - The Anti-Gun Left Can’t Seem to Understand That Popularity Isn’t the Same as Constitutionalityby Dan Zimmerman on June 26, 2022 at 9:00 am
Do not call this band of reckless revisionists on the court conservatives, by the way. Nothing about what they are doing is “conservative,” nor should you call them “strict constructionalists” or “originalists,” as their decisions disregard legal precedent, the spirit of the Constitution, and often craft citations for their decisions from whole cloth. One recent example, last week’s decision ending New York’s restrictions on carrying a concealed handgun, offers a prime example of this. By Miguel A. Faria, M.D. Until this week, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) had not made it clear that the right to keep and bear arms is protected outside the home. Now it has. Townhall’s headline read, ‘Supreme Court Hands Down Biggest Second Amendment Victory since Heller.’ Indeed, this is a major historic ruling. The article continues, The Supreme Court on Thursday handed down its opinion in a landmark Second Amendment rights case, the biggest win for gun rights since the court’s Heller ruling holding that ‘New York’s proper-cause requirement violates the Fourteenth Amendment by preventing law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms in public for self-defense.’ Justice Clarence Thomas, who wrote the majority opinion in this landmark ruling, explains: In District of Columbia v. - Public Defenders Back Bruen Decision’s Elimination of a Racist Gun Control Lawby TTAG Contributor on June 25, 2022 at 11:00 am
By Jennifer Peltz, AP When the U.S. Supreme Court struck down New York’s tight restrictions on who can carry a handgun, condemnation erupted from liberal leaders and activists. But some public defenders, often allies of progressive activists, praised the court’s ruling, saying gun-permitting rules like New York’s have long been a license for racial discrimination. By making it a crime for most people to carry a handgun, New York and a few other states have ended up putting people — overwhelmingly people of color — behind bars for conduct that would be legal elsewhere, the defense lawyers complain. - The House Quickly Passes the Cornyn-Murphy Senate Gun Control Bill, Sending it to Biden for His Signatureby Dan Zimmerman on June 24, 2022 at 3:00 pm
Anxious to vote and get the hell out of Washington, DC for their scheduled two-week break (and before the city burns) the House of Representatives quickly rubber-stamped the Cornyn-Murphy gun control bill today after it cleared the Senate late last night. Much like the Senate, 14 Republicans voted for the bill in the House (15 GOPers voted yes in the Senate). The Do Something Gun Control Bill of 2022 — actual name: the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act — is a vaguely written, ill defined hash of measures that throws money at states ostensibly to fund mental health programs and to encourage them to enact due process-free gun control laws. - Does ‘Hardening’ Schools Make Them Safer?by TTAG Contributor on June 24, 2022 at 11:00 am
By Elizabeth K. Anthony, Arizona State University The first real possibility for federal firearms legislation in decades has been sketched out by a bipartisan group of senators. It comes in the wake of the May 23, 2022, school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, in which an 18-year-old gunman killed 19 children and two teachers before himself being killed in a gunfire exchange with police. Perhaps inspired by concerns that the shooter entered the school through a door whose lock malfunctioned, and faced few other barriers or restrictions during his attack, the bipartisan proposal would boost both physical security measures and the number of mental health workers in schools. New York’s common sense and century-old law on concealed carry permits struck an appropriate balance between preserving Second Amendment rights and preventing weapons from being procured by those who should not have them. The reality is that most gun permits were, in fact, granted even under the requirement that an individual establish proper cause to obtain a license.
